Birds Eye works with National Schools Partnership to launch ‘Grow Your Own’ programme

Birds Eye has collaborated with the National School Partnership to launch the third phase of The Great Food Journey campaign.

3,500 schools have signed up to take part in the ‘Grow Your Own’ programme, which has provided downloadable lesson plans and activities, interactive whiteboard games and video content about growing plants, life cycles and healthy eating.

30,000 packs of pea seeds are also being given away to help children understand where their food comes from.

The frozen foods brand has been working with National Schools Partnership since 2012 to encourage education experts to help primary schools teach children where their food comes from and about the nutritional benefits.

Last year the Great Food Journey programme was recognised at a European level after winning the Business to Consumer category at the European Sponsorship Awards.

Birds Eye marketer Kinjal Patel commented on the scheme: “We are hugely proud of The Great Food Journey campaign. Since it launched in 2012 we have had great feedback from teachers, pupils and parents – so are really excited to be offering the programme to more schools this summer. The third and final project offers fun, hands-on learning – and a chance for children to understand and appreciate where peas come from – as well as the importance of eating well.”

Mark Fawcett, chief executive at National Schools Partnership added: “The Great Food Journey programme brings to life the journey of food from farm to fork in a fun, engaging and educationally robust way. We are really excited to be building on previous success and helping more pupils and families learn about where their food comes from and the features of a healthy balanced diet.”
