The Pope has unveiled his Twitter handle, after speculation over what the handle for Pope Benedict XVI would be.
The handle has been revealed as @pontifex, with the Pope sitting at over 7,000 followers for the English account, although six other accounts have been set up for different languages.
He will start tweeting on December 12, although it has been said that the tweets will not be written by Pope Benedict XVI himself, as he prefers to write longhand.
Vatican officials have said he will personally press the send key on the first tweet, with others to write the tweets afterwards, which are expected to be based on speeches he makes, and he will approve them before they are sent.
