Angus Stickler has resigned from his position of chief reporter at the Bureau of Investigative Journalism (BIJ) following the Newsnight report which falsely accused Lord McAlpine of being a paedophile
Stickler seconded the Newsnight investigation into child abuse at a care home in North Wales with the BIJ saying after the disastrous report that it was a “serious mistake” to allow Stickler to work for the BBC2 programme.
Rachel Oldroyd, the BIJ's deputy editor, confirmed Stickler's resignation in an email saying that he "had resigned from the bureau and his resignation had been accepted". Oldryd has temporarily taken the role of editor since Iain Overton resigned in the immediate wake of the scandal breaking. Last week, the BIJ's trustees appointed Christopher Hird as the new editor.
