Macmillan Cancer Support unveils latest film for Age Old Excuse campaign starring Sir Patrick Stewart

Sir Patrick Stewart has starred in a promotional film made by Media Trust for cancer charity Macmillan Cancer Support.

The film was directed by award-winning director/producer Gavin Toomey and forms part of their ‘Age Old Excuse’ campaign to tackle ageism in the NHS. It tells the stories of three older people defying the stereotypes often associated with their age.

Featured in the film is Professor Geoffrey Palmer, 72, a world renowned grain scientist and first class university lecturer. In the film he proclaims that there is no reason why an older person can’t still innovate.

The film finishes with Sir Patrick Stewart, 72, stating that “age is just a number”.

Jane Stephenson, executive producer at Media Trust, commented on the activity: “As a charity ourselves we are uniquely placed to understand the needs of other charities such as Macmillan. When looking for contributors, we found so many people with inspiring stories who would have been suitable to include in the film, really highlighting the importance of this campaign.

“Film is a powerful tool for communicating an organisation’s message and I hope it will be a real asset to Macmillan’s ‘Age Old Excuse’ campaign.”
