The Queen to praise Team GB as her Christmas broadcast goes 3D for first time

The Queen is set to hail the efforts of Team GB as her televised Christmas message is broadcast in 3D for the first time.

The annual address is expected to hear Queen Elizabeth II congratulate the efforts of Great Britain’s Olympic and Paralympic athletes following the success of the London 2012 Olympic Games last summer.

“As London hosted a splendid summer of sport, all those who saw the achievement and courage at the Olympic and Paralympic Games were further inspired by the skill, dedication, training and teamwork of our athletes. In pursuing their own sporting goals, they gave the rest of us the opportunity to share something of the excitement and drama,” she is expected to say.

The Queen is also expected to state that she was “humbled” by the celebrations of her Diamond Jubilee.

The broadcast will be the first by the Queen, using 3D with pictures of the Queen wearing a pair of 3D glasses with Swarovski crystals forming a letter Q, watching the speech back during its filming, being released.

“We wanted something a bit different and special in this Jubilee year, so showing it for the first time in 3D seemed a good thing to do. The Queen agreed straight away. She was absolutely ready to embrace something new this year,” a spokesperson for the Palace told The Daily Mirror earlier this week.

Those who own 3D enabled TVs will be able to watch the 3D version of this year's Christmas message, which will also be broadcast on radio and television at 3pm today.
