Accroding to analytics firm Flurry the 25 December saw 328 million app downloads and also estimated that 17.4 million new iOS and Android devices were activated on the same day.
Flurry's software tracks the usage of more than 260,000 apps, and shows that the app download figure is up in 2012 from 242 million iOS and Android downloads on Christmas Day in 2011.
Based on the same data, the company has also estimates iOS and Android devices activated on Christmas Day were also up from 6.8 million in 2011, and 2.8 million in 2010. In addition, of the 17.4 million new activations on Christmas Day 2012, Flurry has estimated that 51 per cent were tablets and 49 per cent were smartphones.
Flurry’s Peter Farago stated in the blog post revealing the analytics that come New Year "Flurry anticipates downloads to surpass more than 1.5 billion, and have a shot at breaking through the 2 billion download barrier for the first time ever.”
