As today’s announcement that HMV had entered administration, Twitter users took to the social media site to ask famous entrepreneurs to save the music retailer.
Among those bombarded with tweets include Lord Allen Sugar, Bill Gates, the stars of Dragons Den and, surprisingly, Sir Richard Branson who’s Virgin Megastore’s closed down in the UK in 2007.
A Twitter user @audgeRyan appealed to Lord Sugar’s “good” side, tweeting: “@Lord_Sugar SAVE HMV! It’s in your power, please the people, it’s a sad day for music and you’re a good man.”
Meanwhile @AnnoraSims turned to the Dragon’s Den stars for support, tweeting Theo Paphitis, Duncan Bannatyne, Peter Jones and Deborah Meaden with the message: “Anyone want to save HMV? Save the high street? #highhopes.”
Theo Paphitis quickly declared himself out, blaming HMV’s flawed business model, which he seems to think does not stand up against online competition, for its failure: “No HMV not for me, sadly has no reason to exist anymore!”
Others suggested that everyone should “chip in £10” to save it, while others called on people to “rush down and buy something now”.
