Game, the chain now owned by OpCapita, has confirmed that it is interested in acquiring up to 45 HMV stores: less than a year than the company went into administration itself.
Game chief executive Martyn Gibbs confirmed to the Financial Times that it had approached Deloitte, who was appointed administrator for HMV earlier this week, but would not say exactly how many stores it would be looking to purchase.
Gibbs told the FT: “We will constantly review our property portfolio based on what is available. I would not rule out any stores becoming available, be that through an administration or normal property deals.”
It has been suggested that at least 50 expressions of interest have been made about taking over the music chain, with Hilco, which owns HMV Canada, amongst them.
OpCapita, who bought Game when it went into administration, also owned Comet, which went into administration in November.
