Secretary of State for Culture, Media and Sport has told the media and marketing industry that she is “determined to be a cheerleader” for the impact it has on the British economy and reputation.
Speaking at the Advertising Association’s Lead Summit, Miller, a former Texcaco marketer and senior executive at adverting agency Grey, said: "Take it from me, Government is looking for ways to help industry grow."
"I am absolutely proud of the advertising industry in this country, the impact it has on our economy and our reputation abroad. I am determined to be its cheerleader," she continued
Her declaration of support comes following what she described as an “eye popping” revelation that marketing generates £100 billion of the UK's GDP.
The Advertising Association/Deloitte report found that £16 billion annual ad expenditure adds £100 billion to the UK GDP.
The Culture Secretary also went on to say that adverting was a "driver of investment, tourism and growth", and asked for the industry’s help in boosting economic recovery by providing more support for SMEs.
