Facebook is looking to add at least 10 high-quality titles to its gaming roster this year, as it aims to attract players who will spend the most time and money on games.

The games have been created by third party developers.

A report from Reuters, says that it comes as part of Facebook's ongoing objective of making sure its 1 billion-plus users log in and spend more time on the network, which in turn boosts ad revenue.

Additionally, Facebook takes a cut of its applications' revenue, typically 30 per cent.

The games set to be launched will be a move away from the family-friendly offerings such as Zynca’s ‘Farmville’, with stronger elements such as plot, graphics quality, full-screen play and flash.

Sean Ryan, director of games partnerships, said during a press event in October that Facebook had been looking to diversify its gaming offerings: "Role playing games, strategy, core or mid core games, that's what we expect to see next year for the explosion of genres."

Last week Facebook updated its App Center categories to give "Action" and "Adventure" its own slots.
