Ipswich Town footballer and gambling addict Michael Chopra has moved to close down his Twitter accounts, just minutes after posting an image of a bag of an open bag stuffed with £20 notes.
The hoard was accompanied by a message from the player informing his 14,000 followers to ‘Keep tweeting me about being in debt haha love it #cash #skint #lol #lendmeafiver.’
It is unclear what the origin of the photo was or the intent behind posting as Chopra promptly closed down his account but the star was previously loaned £250k by his club in 2011 to help pay off gambling debts.
An Ipswich Town spokesperson said: “Michael enjoys the banter of Twitter but sometimes that banter can be a little bit over the top.
“As a club we welcome the use of Twitter. In an era when fans don't get close to players it's a good communication tool, but players should think before they tweet.”
Chopra’s teammate Jay Emmanuel Thomas posted his own assessment of the affair, tweeting ‘Michael Chopra your a clown’.
