Virgin Media and FilmFlex have agreed a multi-year deal

Virgin Media and movies on-demand provider FilmFlex have renewed their partnership in a bid to drive forward the development of the state-of-the art technology which powers Virgin Movies.

FilmFlex will now invest in the development, roll-out and management of next generation video-on-demand services as well as producing and curating film content for Virgin Movies, under the terms of the deal.

Product developments planned for this year include the introduction of multi-device playback through Virgin Media’s cloud-based entertainment service - Virgin TV Anywhere. FilmFlex and Virgin Media also plan to work together on the further development of the movies-on-demand service offered via TiVo.

The multi-year agreement will allow for Virgin Media to continue growing its video-on-demand offering throughout the UK at a time of increasing consumer demand for multi-screen living. For FilmFlex the deal reinforces its position as a major video-on-demand provider and a leading supplier of white-label services.

“As the home to the greatest choice of films on TV, Virgin Media is always looking to develop new ways to bring our customers the very best, most recent content whenever they want and wherever they are,” commented Aleks Habdank, director of digital entertainment product at Virgin Media. “FilmFlex, as experts in movies-on-demand, are key strategic partners for us as the growth of digital entertainment continues apace and we look forward to the next exciting chapter of working together.”

Jeff Henry, chief executive officer at FilmFlex Movies, added: “This milestone partnership with Virgin Media will see the creation and development of brilliant new applications to evolve Virgin Movies over the coming years. There has never been such an exciting time for the video-on-demand business and we are delighted to be extending our relationship with Virgin Media with whom we have had a long and successful collaboration.”
