Lord Sugar steps down as non-exec chairman of YouView

Lord Alan Sugar is to step down from his position as non-executive chairman of YouView in the next few weeks.

The video-on-demand joint venture between broadcasters the BBC, ITV, Channel 4 and Channel 5, ISPs BT and Talk Talk and Arqiva, announced Lord Sugar would take the helm two years ago, following the resignation of former chairman Kip Meek.

YouView will announce a replacement in the coming months.

Lord Sugar said: “When I joined YouView in 2011 my brief from the shareholders was to use my experience in the electronics industry to get the product to market and into the homes of consumers. Having done that successfully, my job is complete and I will now focus my time and attention into my other businesses.

I'd like to thank all those who are part of the YouView project, including its suppliers, staff and shareholders and I wish them every success for the future."

YouView shareholder BT has reported it has 60,000 customers with YouView connected TV boxes with 21,100 having signed up over the past quarter to the end of December.
