Apple named the world's most admired company for sixth year in a row

Apple has remained ahead of Google and Amazon, to take the top spot in Fortune’s Top 50 World’s Most Admired Companies List.

It is the sixth year in a row the tech company has taken the lead, while Google came second and Amazon took third position.

Although the list is international, the top 10 was made up of American companies, including Coca-Cola, Starbucks and Walt Disney. BMW is the first non-US company on the list – coming in at number 14.

Apple was voted number one by 3,800 company directors and executives, with Fortune explaining: “Apple has had a rough time lately with its stock price in a free fall and the widely publicized failure of its Maps feature. However, it remains a financial juggernaut, posting $13 billion in net income last quarter, making it the most profitable company in the world during that period.

“The company has its fanatical customer base, and it still refuses to compete on price, making the iconic iPhone and iPad products that are still widely seen as prestige devices.”

Fortune said that Google came is second as “the Silicon Valley giant continues to be the most attractive place to work, placing first on LinkedIn’s Most In Demand Employers and Fortune‘s Best Companies to Work For lists in 2013.”

The anticipated success of Android OS and Google Play was also considered in the positioning of the company on the list, according to Fortune.
