An unseemly row has broken out amongst an online army of Justin Bieber acolytes after a seemingly innocuous tweet was issued by the Canadian crooner’s newest fan.
Having sampled the delights of Bieber’s latest musical effort Courtney Barrasford took to her Twitter account to recount her surprise that the acoustic album ‘is actually good’, couching her praise with an acknowledgement that she was ‘not really a fan’.
Pleased to have recruited a new convert to the faith Bieber retweeted the message to his 34m followers – and then the sparks flew.
A succession of embittered fans jealous that their idol had deigned to retweet someone other than themselves who wasn’t a ‘real’ fan duly emerged with a series of hate filled tweets; including @julietesqueda who write: ‘Not really a fan of Justin Bieber but his acoustic album is really good!’
Another disgruntled follower penned: “‘I am a Belieber of him since 2009 and he didn’t notice me. And you’re not even a f****** fan. You get noticed. OMG.”
Commenting on her new found infamy Barrasford said: “I came back from a drama class where everyone had been going on about how good Justin Bieber’s acoustic album was. So I went on to YouTube to listen to it and then put my comment up.
“About ten minutes later my friend sent me a message to say she had noticed something on Twitter. It wasn’t too bad at first.
“But then it started to get worse as more people found out. I had things like you’re not a fan, go kill yourself.”
