Top mountaineer and outdoor commentator Cameron McNeish has backed efforts to help trace missing Inverness journalist, Clive Dennier.

On Monday the keen hillwalker failed to turn up to work at the Strathspey and Badenoch Herald and has not been seen since last weekend.

McNeish has called for walkers in the Scottish Highlands and Skye to be on alert for Dennier and his distinctive silver Volkswagen Polo car which has the registration SX54 CXD and is missing its hub caps.

Family, friends and colleagues of Dennier, 50, are becoming increasing concerned for his safety with his disappearance being described as “out of character”.

“During his career Clive has often written about climbing accidents and hill walkers who have gone missing. It's cruelly ironic that he is now the subject of a massive search,” commented McNeish.

“I would appeal to all hill goers this Easter weekend to be particularly vigilant and keep a look out for Clive's car. If we find that, the chances are that we'll find him. Please make extra efforts to check out some of those remote parking areas and help the search and rescue services who, as ever, are doing a fantastic job.”

On Thursday members of the Skywatch Civil Air Patrol carried out an aerial search for Dennier and his car and covered 250 nautical miles checking main car parks as well as out of the way places.

The Mountaineering Council of Scotland has also asked its members to help efforts to trace Dennier. Anyone with information is urged to contact 101.
