Scotland Yard officers have arrested a twelfth man under suspicion of sexual offences as part of Operation Yewtree, a wider criminal investigation launched on the back of the Jimmy Savile investigation.
Though not directly related to the Savile case the man’s arrest comes just one day after the arrest of David Smith, a former BBC driver for celebrities back in the 1980s.
Smith has become the first person to be charged in the operation for five sexual offences against a boy then aged 14 in 1984. He will appear at Westminster Magistrates Court on 8 May.
A host of famous faces have been caught up in the inquiry so far, including comedians Freddie Starr and Jim Davidson as well as the singer Gary Glitter, publicist Max Clifford, DJ Dave Lee Travis and an unnamed 82 year-old male.
