Kent Police probe offensive Paris Brown tweets

Kent Police has launched a formal investigation into a series of reportedly violent, racist and homophobic tweets penned by their own police and crime commissioner.

Paris Brown, 17, earns £15k a year through her role with the force but has since been thrust into the spotlight after a national newspaper trawled her Twitter account for offensive material, digging up a series of missives penned between 2010 and 12.

The launch of a formal investigation dovetails with the public backing of Kent Police and crime commissioner Ann Barnes who defended Brown and the post, the first of its kind in the UK.

In a statement the force said in the wake of a ‘number of complaints’ “Kent police officers are investigating circumstances to determine whether any offences have been committed."

Brown has since apologised for using ‘inappropriate language’.
