The charities that work in Jimmy Savile’s name are set to close following sexual abuse allegations made against the late DJ and presenter.
The trustees of both the Jimmy Savile Charitable Trust and Jimmy Savile Stoke Mandeville Hospital have both considered rebranded following the allegations made against Savile in recent weeks, but have decided to close instead.
The reason for closing was due to being linked to Savile, which they said would be ‘damaging’ to their causes.
Savile is said to have raised around £40m during his lifetime for charity, and established the Jimmy Savile Stoke Mandeville Hospital Trust in 1981, before then establishing the Jimmy Savile Charitable Trust in 1984.
Meanwhile ‘Jimmy’s’ café at Stoke Mandeville will undergo a name change.
