Data shows smartphones and tablets now account for 17% of UK network transactions

Online marketing services provider Rakuten LinkShare has revealed that tablet and mobile sales have now reached 17 per cent of overall network transactions in the UK, highlighting the growing role of mobile shopping in the wider digital market.

The data was contained in a snapshot of current trends in the market which showed that around 22 per cent of clicks and 17 per cent of transactions originated from mobile devices in the first quarter.

Double digit growth was recorded in the UK with sales rising 29 per cent year-on-year in the first quarter of 2013, driven by 67 per cent growth in the beauty and personal care sector and 41 per cent growth for fashion and accessorioes.

Mark Haviland, MD of Rakuten LinkShare commented: “While browsing on smartphones is now commonplace, it’s the superior user experience on tablets, such as the larger screen size, that encourages consumers to make a purchase.

“Our data reveals that as retailers optimise their sites for tablets, they have a great opportunity to increase sales through the affiliate channel by working closely with their CPA network to ensure they are actively targeting tablet users with the right content and responsive design to deliver a smooth buying experience.”
