Sainsbury’s launches Video On Demand service

Sainsbury’s has announced the launch of a Video On Demand service allowing film fans to buy or rent movies and watch them immediately on their computers or on an Apple device.

The move sees Sainsbury’s move into a territory previously only held by Tesco in the supermarket sector, following Tesco’s move to buy movie streaming service Blinkbox.

Jon Rudoe, Sainsbury’s director of online, digital and cross-channel, said: "We’ve worked hard to expand our digital entertainment offer for our customers. With the recent launch of eBooks by Sainsbury’s, the launch of Video On Demand allows our customers to enjoy their favourite books and films from Sainsbury’s Entertainment when and how they want – be it through digital downloads or physical copies of DVDs, Blu-rays, CDs or books."

Sainsbury’s Video On Demand will work on a pay-as-you go basis, with Nectar card holders to be able to earn loyalty points for buying or renting films and also redeem loyalty points to pay for their movie rentals or purchases.
