
Justin Bieber has extended his lead over pop rival Lady GaGa as the most popular person on Twitter after garnering his 40 millionth follower via the microblogging service.
To accompanying the psychologically significant figure the social media savvy Bieber penned his own hashtag, #40MillionBeliebers, which soon began trending worldwide.
Marking the landmark Bieber also took a trip down memory lane, September 2009 to be precise, posting a screen grab from the period when the Twitter novice had just accrued his 40th follower.
In a tweet to fans Bieber said simply ‘thank u. I love u’.
Lady GaGa currently has just over 37.9m followers with Katy Perry not far behind with 37.4m. Next in line is Barack Obama who has amassed an impressive 32.2 million, Rihanna, who has 29.8 million and Taylor Swift with 28.6 million.
