Royal British Legion to use Thunderclap technology on Remembrance Day

The Royal British Legion has announced that it will be using Thunderclap to encourage social media users to mark the two minute silence on November 11.

It claims it is the first UK organisation to use the social media tool to encourage people to mark Remembrance Sunday.

Thunderclap was created by product development studio De-De group and in a basic sense, "stockpiles" tweets pledged to a particular cause. Once enough tweets have been "stockpiled" they are unleashed simultaneously for maximum impact.

Royal British Legion will use Thunderclap to send the message: "I'll be remembering the fallen at 11 o'clock #2MinuteSilence #LestWeForget," at 09:00 GMT to reach an estimated 10 million Twitter and 33 million Facebook users.

Hashem Bajwa, spokesman for Thunderclap, commented on the technology to the BBC, saying: "Twitter is a wonderful way to say something, but it's difficult to be heard.

"Thunderclap lets people be heard by saying something together."
