Sky agrees content deal with NBCUniversal

Sky has agreed a new multi-year licensing agreement with NBCUniversal which will see it broadcast the US company’s content exclusive in the UK and Ireland.

The deal will see Sky handed the rights to broadcast TV content and from the Universal library of feature films through its Sky Movies service, as well as On Demand and through Sky Go, including releases such as Ted, The Bourne Legacy and Snow White & the Huntsman.

A separate deal has also been agreed between Sky and Universal Networks International which will extend the availability of Universal’s TV channels through Sky’s TV subscription offering.

Classic movies such as Jurassic Park, Back to the Future and Scarface will also be available through the deal across the 11 Sky Movies channels and to NOW TV customers.

Also available as a result of the NBCU deal will be programmes such as Keeping up with the Kardashians, Continuum, Warehouse 13 and Law & Order: Special Victims across various channels.

Jon Simkin, director of channels and operations, commented: “With a growing portfolio of popular shows from established pay TV brands including Universal Channel, E! Entertainment and Syfy, we are investing in more choice and quality for customers. At the same time, we are helping NBCU reach advertisers and sponsors through the on-going relationship with Sky Media."
