Digital-focused marketing agency, Weapon7, has announced an ambitious experimental project – ‘Realtime Man’ – in celebration of Internet Week 2012.
‘Realtime Man’ aims to see if one person can attend all of the events taking place over the course of the week as well as generating content to share via social channels. With spontaneity and unpredictability at the core of the experiment, Internet Week’s Realtime Man kicks off with a female advertising and anthropology graduate in the role: Salome Van Leuven.
Van Leuven will be identifiable to other Internet Week attendees by her Internet Week pink blazer; she will be setting herself the challenge of attending in excess of 70 events across 50 venues over the course of five days.
Weapon 7 recruited Van Leuven through Twitter and she is now tasked with keeping the agency’s followers up-to-date by tweeting and blogging, with regular updates and a tracking system being displayed on the realtimeman.com site.
Creative director at Weapon7, Jeremy Garner, commented: “This whole project started with the question - could one person attend all of Internet Week’s events in person? The internet has given us the power to be in several different places at once, however, in the real world we are still confined by time and space.
“This project is an experiment in social media - exploring the effects of social media ‘upload overload’ on a human being.”
