Sooty rights snapped up by One Media as it looks to reach digital audiences

The worldwide right to classic children’s TV character Sooty, have been bought by One Media.

The acquirer of music and video rights has announced an exclusive deal for the ownership of the character’s worldwide rights to material, including episodes running back to when the character originally appeared in the 1950’s.

Also acquired are rights to the Sooty Radio Show and a feature length special, Sooty – The Big Day Out.

At the time of writing, the value of the acquisition had not been disclosed, with future royalty payments to be made.

Michael Infante, CEO and Chairman of One Media, commented: "The continuing acquisition of outstanding content is core to the success of One Media and I am extremely pleased with the addition of Sooty, Sweep & Soo to our portfolio. This acquisition broadens our mix of content and marks an important move into the distribution of non-music related video, an area we are looking to build on in the near future. Our expansion into acquiring more content to meet the demands of the emerging Smart TV market will continue to be a priority. "

One Media has said that it will aim to sell the content across digital platforms such as YouTube, iTunes and Amazon.

Sooty, a yellow sock puppet bear, was created in the 1950's and is the longest running children's programme in the UK.
