BBCs Panorama to air investigation into reclusive Barclay Brothers

The reclusive Barclay Brothers, owners of the Daily Telegraph, are to find themselves the subjects of an investigation by the BBCs hard-hitting Panorama programme after the broadcasters transitional director general, , rescinded a hold order placed on it by his predecessor George Entwistle.

Fronted by veteran journalist John Sweeney the show is currently investigating the litigious billionaires with Sweeney confident that it will be broadcast ‘soon’, although no transmission date has yet been set.

No inkling as to what the show’s content might be has yet been released but Kevin Delaney, who runs the twins Sark estate in the Channel Islands, said: “Mr Sweeney filmed people without their consent.

He aggressively invaded my offices and harassed and intimidated my staff in his concerted efforts at staging a hostile confrontation with me on camera - despite being made aware, in writing, that I did not want to be interviewed by him.”

Broadcast would follow a disastrous few weeks for the network following a run of two badly botched investigations by its Newsnight show.
