The Drum Design Awards is open for entries

Former Design Week editor Lynda Relph-Knight, Design Council CEO John Mathers and interactive media consultant Malcolm Garrett are included on the panel of the inaugural Drum Design Awards, which has now launched its call for entries.

The event which is open to all UK-based marketing services companies and clients aims highlight the contribution great design makes to the economy as a whole.

Said Gordon Young, editor of The Drum, “There are many events where the design profession ends up talking to itself. We wanted to create a more inclusive awards which celebrates the range of different companies now involved in the design process, and the range of different services traditional design consultancies now offer.”

However, if design itself has moved beyond its traditional silos The Drum Design Awards is still old fashioned in one important respect.

Said Young, “It is still underpinned by a traditional printed product. And we aim to use The Drum magazine to showcase the best work which will emerge through the Design Awards process. After all, there is still lots of work which is only shown off to its best effect when actually published on a printed page. And of course, as one of the few published still committed to print that is something The Drum can offer.”

As well as Relph-Knight, Mathers and Garrett, The Drum Design Awards panel will include Adrian Burton; Lambie Nairn, Sue Daun; The Brand Union, Gary Hold; Someone, James Sommerville; co-founder ATTICK, Gion-Men Kruegel-Hanna; formerly of InterBrand, Greg Quinton; The Partners, and Domenic Lippa; Pentagram.

Entry deadline for the awards is 1 February, although an early bird discount rate of 20 per cent will be available until 21 December.
