Apple sacks head of mapping in wake of consumer backlash

Apple has unceremoniously fired the head of its much criticised maps division following a disastrous launch that launch of its proprietary location software that has been beset by glitches, glaring omissions and flaws.

Richard Williamson was shown the door as the firm attempts to restore its tarnished reputation for competence and is now seeking outside assistance to turn things around, according to reports on Bloomberg.

Senior vice-president Eddy Cue reportedly wielded the knife but the secretive tech giant has made no public statement on the matter.

Apple controversially ditched Google Maps on its iPad and Iphone devices following a recent software upgrade introduced in September but has been lampooned ever since for its inaccurate geography.
This forced the firm to issue a grovelling apology and a promise that the faulty software would be fixed.
