The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge have said that they announced the pregnancy early due to concerns that it would be announced on Twitter.
According to a royal aide, Kate, who is suffering from a severe form of morning sickness, was concerned that news would leak out and be revealed on social media sites.
The source told the Telegraph: "Considerations about Twitter and the Internet formed part of the decision in going public, as it shapes all decisions about the handling of the media in the current age."
Shortly after the news was announced, it begun to spread on Twitter, with Paddy Power already unveiling odds on the name of the baby.
Three accounts: @iamroyalbaby @kateswomb and @HRHfetus, have already been suspended, while others (pictured) are still live.
Last week, during a visit to Cambridge, William was given a baby-grow which he took, saying “I’ll keep that.”
