It has been twenty years since the humble text was first transmitted across the airwaves, swiftly mushrooming over the intervening years to become the ubiquitous communication tool it is today.
Now Data Locator Group claims that the format is set for its greatest ‘revolution’ since its inception after signing a £730k deal with mobile marketing agency Digitonic to pioneer the use of Rich Text Media in the UK.
This allows messages to be made more interactive with firms able to transmit television commercials, images and audio via text messages that cost only marginally more than a standard message.
Dave Craft, group sales director at DLG said: “Research shows that mobile users sent more than 150 billion messages last year – which is a significant increase on the previous year. With Rich Media Texting the opportunities for engaging with customers and getting them to buy goods and services is hugely enhanced.
Grant Fraser, managing director of Digitonic added: “Rich Media Texting will play an increasingly important part of above-and-below-the-line marketing campaigns for brands of all sizes.
“Quality data is critical for all marketing initiatives and our partnership with a business that can supply the best possible opted-in consumer data to be used for Rich Media Texting campaigns is very exciting.
“Digitonic has developed a mobile marketing channel that really works and with DLG's input, many more brands will be able to take advantage of the powerful benefits of Rich Media Texting.”
