Bjork turns to Kickstarter for cross platform Biophilia app

Idiosyncratic Icelandic pop act Bjork has announced launch of a Kickstarter fundraising campaign geared toward adapting her Biophilia iPad apps for Android and Windows 8.

The singer needs to raise £375k to complete the work and contributors to the drive are being offered T-shirts, records and other gubbins to tempt them to stump up, says the guardian.

For those stumping up the most cash a range of other treats will be on offer, including cocktails with the band.

Biophilia is Bjork’s 10th album of electronic pop songs but the first to integrate an educational venture which aims to educate children in areas such as science and music.

Each song has been adapted into an iPad app exploring key scientific ideas such as gravity, DNA and musical scales with the singer staging workshops in tandem with concerts to explore these ideas further.

In a statement Bjork said: “The Biophilia educational programme … has met with success in many cities, sparking interest from kids and educators all over the world, from South America to east Asia to Africa.

“The most interest has come from students from low-income households and schools with underfunded art budgets, and the only way to bring the project to those people is to have Biophilia reprogrammed."
