Channel 4 has unveiled a dedicated 4oD application for Android tablets and smartphones, offering a wide selection of programmes from Channel 4, E4 and More4, past and present.
Available via Google Play and coming soon to the Samsung App Store, users will be able to catch up on the past 30 days of TV across Channel 4’s portfolio as well as access the broadcaster extensive library of past content for free.
The app allows users to browse for programmes by date or category, scroll through an A to Z list or select from specialist interest collections such as Live Laughs and Chef Specials.
Available on most Android devices running operating system version 4.0 (Ice Cream Sandwich) and above, the 4oD app is optimised for Google Nexus 7, Google Nexus S, Google Nexus 4, Samsung Galaxy S3, HTC Desire S, Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 10.1.
Head of VOD at Channel 4, Sarah Milton, said the broadcaster was “pleased to be able to extend our successful video-on-demand service to this range of modern Android devices,” adding: “This development continues our ongoing strategy of widening access to 4oD, with particular emphasis on supporting the increasing numbers of users who want to watch our programmes on portable devices.”
The news follows Channel 4 CEO David Abraham’s comments at last week’s Lead summit where he confirmed the broadcaster intended to introduce new bespoke targeted digital advertising platforms and that Channel 4 was looking to increase its number of registrations across more platforms, whilst continuing to drive viewer engagement.
