At least 25 jobs are said to be at risk at the Independent as the paper prepares to integrate with the Evening Standard and launch a local TV channel, according to the National Union of Journalists.
.In an email to staff the union said: “The number 25 is not a final figure for compulsory redundancies but represents an amount management says it needs to save."
‘Radical’ changes to the papers newsroom are said to be looming ahead of the launch of London Live later this year, a process which is expected to see up to 25 staff lose their jobs.
This will be made possible by the integration of the newsrooms of the Independent and London Evening Standard.
Doug Wills, managing editor of the Independent, Evening Standard and i, said: "We are talking and working with staff to minimise job losses and to avoid compulsory redundancies as far as possible."
