Chris Marshall of HROC’s ‘Jesus Christ! Superstar needed.’ is our 'Ad of the Week'

It was only a matter of time before a Pope ad featured as a Chip Shop Awards ‘Ad of the Week’ and that time has come.

With the deadline for Chip Shop Awards entries just two weeks away, the contest to be named ‘Ad of the Week’ has never been fiercer.

Chris Marshall of HROC’s ‘Jesus Christ! Superstar needed.’ ad for Pertemps was entered into the ‘Invent Your Own’ category and advertises the, soon to be vacant, position as the head of the Catholic Church.

The ads clever copy states that successful candidate requires “a vague belief in God” with perks including “company car with extensive sunroof, grace and favour apartment, free uniform, possible sainthood (after death) and fast track to Heaven/Hell (subject to performance).”

The ad also confirms: “Gays and women need not apply.”

All of the works submitted to this year’s 10th anniversary Chip Shop Awards will be judged by an esteemed panel of judges which includes the likes of BMB co-founder Bil Bungay, Patrick Baglee founder of Mr Baglee, AMV BBDO’s Paul Burke, and Abi Ellis group creative director at LBi. With the judges deciding which ads will take home the Chip and Vinegar awards at this year’s event.

‘Ad of the Week’ is voted for each week by the public via the Chip Shop Awards site, reflecting the industry and general public’s favourite work submitted so far.

To mark the 10th anniversary of the Chip Shop Awards this year promises to be bigger and better than ever before. Voting for the penultimate ‘Ad of the Week’ is already open so be sure to cast your eye over the submissions so far on the Chip Shop Awards site ASAP.

The awards are all about creativity and ideas, entrants need not have worked for the client and work submitted doesn’t need to have run. Chip Shop categories include Best Politically Incorrect, Best Ambient Media, Best Use of Regional Dialect, and new for this year the Crinkly Chips, for the industry legends.

All entries should be submitted by 8 March – just 14 days from now – via the Chip Shop Awards site if you fancy your chances at ‘Ad of the Week’ or taking home a Chip later in the year.
