Inoue was invited over to the Border Biscuits factory in Lanark

Lanark based Border Biscuits has commissioned Japanese illustrator Yuko Inoue to tell the Border Biscuits story on its new website after discovering her illustrations of the brand via her online blog.

After trying the biscuits on a trip to the UK a few years back Inoue soon became a fan of the brand, when her UK-based boyfriend sent a box of her favourite Strawberry & Cream Shortbread over to Japan she enjoyed them so much that she illustrated them on her blog.

Her blog was soon discovered by the Border Biscuit team who then invited Inoue over to Lanark to spend time at the factory with the biscuit baking team and inspire more drawings for the website.

David Reid, marketing director at Border Biscuits, commented: “The simplicity and beauty of Yuko’s illustrations really appealed to us and when we discovered them on her blog we immediately wanted her to come over to Lanark to meet the people behind the recipes and help us design our new website. We make sure that Yuko has a regular supply of her favourite Strawberry & Cream Shortbread in Japan.”

“Being invited to visit the home of Border Biscuits in Lanark was fantastic and I received a very warm welcome. I was really inspired by the creativity and delicious recipes made at the factory and was able to draw even more illustrations and taste all the biscuits that Border makes,” said Inoue.

“I had a great stay in Scotland and enjoyed visiting your supermarkets, everything is so bright and colourful – it’s very minimalistic and monochrome in Japan.”
