Marketing Manchester works with The Gate Films for new video that highlights Manchester’s role in story of graphene

Manchester’s role in the story of graphene has been revealed in a new film launched at property fair MIPIM taking place in Cannes, France.

‘Graphene: Made in Manchester’ showcases the city’s track record for scientific discovery and outlines the qualities of the new material which was isolated at The University of Manchester in 2004.

The film promotes the importance of helping both organisations and institutions commercialise their inventions and research. Speaking of the film, Marketing Manchester chief executive Andrew Stokes said: “Alongside atomic theory and the world’s first computer program, Graphene is, without doubt, one of the city’s greatest achievements. It is hugely important that we promote Graphene’s connection with Manchester. Its discovery is a major coup and demonstrates the kind of innovation that is driving the world forward in the 21st Century.”

Produced by The Gate Films, the project was funded by Manchester City Council, MIDAS, The University of Manchester and the European Regional Development Fund.

Stokes added: “As the agency charged with promoting the Manchester on a national and international stage, it’s our job to strengthen the city’s reputation as a leading learning destination and YouTube is a great platform from which to do that.”
