The authors of a website explicitly set up to celebrate the death of Margaret Thatcher have been on the receiving end of some unsavoury sentiments themselves after their work drew a torrent of abuse from Twitter users.
Set up in June 2010 by Jared Earle and Antonio Lulic the site had hitherto carried the simple message ‘not yet’ but was updated yesterday to read ‘Yes’, noting: ‘Margaret Thatcher is dead. This lady's not returning.’
The page went on to query ‘"How are you celebrating? Let us know using the #nowthatchersdead hashtag on Twitter, or get to one of the parties near you on Facebook.’ The pair then posted a link to a Spotify playlist of anti-Thatcher songs.
These actions weren’t well received however with some tweeters warning Earle and Lulic to ‘watch their backs’ and one offering ‘fingers crossed your next’.
Defending his website Earle said: “While I hated Thatcher and her politics, the site isn't a 'hate site' and we never tried to profit from it."
