Sergeant Jeremy Scott resigns after tweeting he hoped Thatcher’s death was ‘degrading’

Sergeant Jeremy Scott from the Met Police has today resigned from his job after sending offensive messages on Twitter following the death of Margaret Thatcher.

In a series of tweets, Scott said that he hoped the death of the former Prime Minister was “painful and degrading”, adding that it came 87 years too late.

He is also said to have tweeted saying “Goodnight Twitter. The world is a better place today now that c*** is dead. Now for Cameron, May and Osborne.”

It has been suggested that Scott quit after learning that he was going to be suspended.

The Evening Standard reported earlier this week that seven other Met staff members have been sacked for abusing social networking sites.
