Vampires and zombies have been the apocalyptic flavour of the month for longer than is seemly... but finally it's time to make way for a new invasion. Yes – the garden gnome is mad as hell at Ikea, and it isn't going to take it any more.
This innocuous little creature, previously capable of little more than defacing lawns with fishing rods, registers mutinous fury as a couple decide to buy items from the advertised furniture store to make their garden an extended room the whole family can enjoy.
Battle commences to the unlikely strains of Motley Crue's 'Time for Change' - as arranged by the Budapest Philharmonic Orchestra; imbuing the scene with that can't-lose combination of classical-sounding music and ultra-violence. If, indeed, any scene featuring vengeful gnomes can be said to contain ultra-violence.
There are some lovely moments and a delicious twist at the end which isn't any less enjoyable for being as obvious as a big neon toadstool.
