YouTube has announced that a plethora of well-known faces from the UK and the US will take part in its newly launched Comedy Week, running from 20-25 May.
Vince Vaughn, David Mitchell, Michael Cera and Jamie Oliver will take part in the live stream variety show from Los Angeles, while other events of the week include new episodes from popular YouTube comedy channels.
Rich Waterworth, head of YouTube marketing for Europe, said: "The UK is world renowned for its comedy and we're excited to announce that our homegrown talent will be joining the lineup for YouTube's first Comedy Week.
"YouTube is the home of comedy for the next generation so join us as we celebrate the best of comedy on YouTube."
Justin Gayner, executive producer of the UK's Comedy Week, added: "With 1 billion monthly viewers, YouTube is the largest platform on the planet. And that makes the inaugural YouTube Comedy Week the biggest single comedy event in history.”
It comes as part of a new strategy for YouTube, as it aims to present a more unified experience for users. The video sharing site has invested heavily in developing original programming, which it hopes the theme weeks, such as Comedy Week, will help to highlight.
