The Syrian Electronic Army hacked the account of celebrity gossip and news site, E! Online earlier this morning, posting several messages about Justin Bieber.
The group claimed to have a number of ‘exclusives’, stating that Bieber had ‘come out’ as ‘a gay’ and Angelina Jolie had admitted that Jordan was responsible for the ‘Syrian refugees’ atrocious conditions’.
The first tweet read: "Exclusive: Justin Bieber to E!online: I'm a gay", with a second tweet claiming girlfriend Selena Gomez has said she will "fully support Bieber in coming out".
The group also posted a third message saying: "Angelina Jolie admits, in E! latest issue, that Jordan is to blame for the Syrian refugees' atrocious conditions."
A final tweet read: "The Syrian Electronic Army was here. Fans of @justinbieber you have been trolled."
The Twitter account, which has over 5 million followers, was suspended and the tweets deleted with E! Online assuring followers it was working with Twitter to resolve the problems.
The SEA has claimed responsibility for a number of other attacks on popular Twitter feeds, including ones connected to NPR, CBS, The Guardian and the BBC.
Earlier this week Twitter sent out a memo to news outlets, suggesting ways in which they could keep their accounts safe from hackers after recent attacks. The SEA meanwhile has vowed to keep causing "problems" for Twitter, alleging that the service keeps suspending its own access.
