Stockholm Pride has launched a Twitter campaign, created by M&C Saatchi Stockholm, aimed at inviting Russians to #GoWest to celebrate.
The campaign comes after a court in Moscow ruled that the Pride celebrations cannot take place for the next 100 years, meaning Russians will be waiting until 2112 before they can organise a gay Pride event in the city.
M&C Saatchi developed the dedicated website which allows visitors to compose and send a tweet-invite that is translated into Russian.
The tweet will also be automatically be changed to a location in Russia with the aim of making #GoWest a trending topic in a bid to reach out to people in the country.
So far, over 5,000 tweets have been sent.
Jörgen Eriksson, director of The Stockholm Pride Festival, commented on the initiative: "To celebrate that love, regardless of sexual orientation, ethnicity and gender identity is a democratic right, we have taken this opportunity to, with humour and love, direct a special invitation to all of Russia to celebrate Pride with us."
