Maurice Saatchi, co-founder of the advertising group Saatchi & Saatchi, has confided to a Sunday newspaper of his grief over his wife’s death.
In a heartfelt interview Lord Saatchi revealed that he has eaten breakfast outside the tomb of Josephine Hart every day since she died of ovarian cancer in June of last year.
Struck with grief Saatchi even mentioned that he has often considered suicide.
Saatchi said: “Of course, the standard advice given to somebody in my situation would be to ‘move on’, that’s the phrase, or to ‘come to terms’ with, isn’t that right? I don’t agree with that at all. In my view, to move on is a monstrous act of betrayal, and to come to terms with, I think I’d call that an act of selfishness."
Admitting that he’s contemplated suicide Saatchi said: “I think about it continuously. I’ve never experienced grief before; this is an incomparable nightmare."
Hart lies buried in a lakeside tomb at Saatchi’s West Sussex home where Saatchi intends to be buried himself.
