Royal British Legion calls for 2min silence to be observed on the internet

The Royal British Legion has urged internet users to observe the 2min silence on Remembrance Sunday by ceasing to update websites over the period.

A new social media tool, Thunderclap, has been utilised by the charity to enable users to issue messages simultaneously across several different channels.

Those registered with the app authorise their Twitter and Facebook accounts to send a message at 9am on Sunday which reads: ‘I’ll be remembering the fallen at 11 o’clock’, helping to raise awareness of the event amongst internet users.

Helen Hill, the head of remembrance at the charity, said: “We hope to create the largest ever show of online remembrance by using the communicative power of social media to remind millions of Britons that they have a very personal opportunity to honour the men and women who paid the ultimate sacrifice.''
