MasterCard has today launched the world’s first touch screen credit card with an LCD display in Singapore, allowing owners to check their balance and recent transactions straight off the plastic.
Display Card adopts smartphone technology to deliver a screen and touch sensitive buttons which can slot into your wallet.
The improved functionality also removes the need for a separate authentication device to access online services.
In a statement MasterCard said: “The innovative 2-in-1 device, which combines the functionality of a standard payment card with a state-of-the-art security token, currently reflects the customer's OTP.
“'In future, this card could incorporate additional functionalities and be able to indicate other real time information such as available credit balance, loyalty or reward points, recent transactions, and other interactive information.”
Google is rumoured to be close to introducing its ‘Google Wallet Card’, a replacement for debit and ATM cards as a stop gap until mobile payments become widespread.
