Metro has announced that it will launch a new multi-platform website, Android app and Kindle Fire edition of its regional free sheet as it forges ahead with its “mobile first” strategy.
An Android app will be unveiled in the next few days with a new website to be revealed on 5 December and following that a Kindle Fire edition due just before Christmas.
The new website will reportedly allow readers to scroll, or "swipe", through pages by flicking their fingers across their laptop, mobile or tablet screen. In addition it will have a personalisation functionality, allowing the site to be curated around readers’ personal interests or behavioural activity, and a function to allow readers to comment on stories via Facebook.
Linda Grant, the managing director at Metro, said: "It is as fit for purpose now as it was in 1999. Like all good visions it will always be a work in progress. Finally the platforms and devices are here to leverage beyond morning print."
