Martin Clunes ditched by Churchill Insurance following driving ban

Martin Clunes, star of Men Behaving Badly, has been axed from his role plugging Churchill car insurance after being disqualified from driving.

The move to drop the actor was taken after Clunes confessed to having amassed 12 points on his license for a succession of speeding offences, culminating in his being barred from driving by magistrates.

Clunes Churchill role saw him star alongside the company’s trademark nodding dog in a £50m marketing campaign which has ran since December 2011.

It featured the pair travelling the English countryside in a Triumph motorbike and sidecar.

A spokesman for Churchill said: ''Martin Clunes recently informed Churchill Insurance that his driving licence has been suspended after he accumulated penalty points for four speeding offences.

“Churchill Insurance currently has no adverts with Martin Clunes on air and will be moving forward with new advertising in the New Year.”
