Dave Waters, founder of communications agency Watermill London, has been appointed the role of chairman for The Drum’s annual Roses Creative Awards.
To the awards, which recognise great creative thinking across advertising, design and digital disciplines, Waters brings a wealth of industry experience.
No stranger to winning accolades himself, he became art director and then board director at Gold Greenlees Trott where he took home at least one of every, British and European advertising award over his seven year stint with the company.
He can put his name to a multitude of well-known campaigns, many of which have run for more than a decade, including Morrisons’ ‘More reasons to shop at Morrisons’, Cadbury Crème Egg’s ‘How do you eat yours’, and the ‘Ariston and on and on’ campaign for Ariston.
In August 1989, he started d,f,g, which went on to be a top 30 advertising agency for 17 years. Whilst there he created campaigns for global clients including Toshiba, BBC, Co-op, Disney, NME, Mothercare and Kerrygold, and won client COI their only Advertising Effectiveness Grand Prix for its anti-drugs work.
Most recently he sold d,f,g,w to Freud Communications and started Watermill with Bertie Miller, developing projects for UKTV, Camden Town Unlimited, 118 118 and ebookers.
Joining Waters on the judging panel this year will be Nicky Bullard, creative director at LIDA/M&C Saatchi; ex-JWT creative director and independent consultant, Mike McKenna; executive creative director and co-founder of Start JudgeGill, David Judge; Steven Anderson, creative director at Smith & Milton; creative director and co-owner of Rose, Garry Blackburn; and finally Nigel Clifton, head of creative at Havas EHS.
If you are interested in entering the Roses Creative Awards you or your client must be based in the UK but outside London’s M25.
The entry deadline is February 8, with the awards ceremony taking place May 2 at the Mercure Hotel, Manchester.
