The CIPR has announced the appointment of Stephen Waddington, European digital and social media director at Ketchum, as the chair of its social media panel.
Taking over the role from Rob Brown, managing partner of Rule 5, Waddington will help work on Share This Too, a follow-up to the book it produced last year, updates to both its Best Practice and Wikipedia Guidelines, a specification for the skills for the future PR practitioner, and guidance on social media and the law.
He said: “The social media panel’s impressive report card is testament to Rob’s leadership and drive, complemented by the hard work of the panel members and the team at the CIPR. I want to thank Rob, the panel members and CIPR team for their work to date and I look forward to maintaining the panel’s drive and ambition in continuing to develop and promote industry leadership.”
As well as the appointment of Waddington, four new members were added to the panel. These are: Matt Appleby, managing director, Golley Slater PR Cardiff; Richard Bagnall, global insights and analytics director, Gorkana Group and chair of AMEC’s Social Media Measurement Group; Rachel Miller, director, All Things IC Limited; and Dan Tyte, executive director, Working Word.
Jane Wilson, CIPR CEO, said: “Under Rob’s leadership, the CIPR has recruited to its ranks some of the foremost social media thought leaders as members and contributors. I’d like to thank the entire panel past and present for their hard work since 2010. Their willingness to share knowledge and expertise has helped shape the CIPR’s leadership in digital and social media. I look forward to the panel continuing their great work in 2013 and welcome Stephen as the new chair.”
